In The New York Gallery

David · Jan 29, 2020 ·

This is a man in a gallery in New York. I was so taken with his face and hat that I was determined to get a photo. In that moment I didn’t care who saw what or who said what: I wanted that photo.

I did a similar thing in a gallery in London and a woman who worked at the gallery came striding over and ordered me to put down my camera. I did, but not before finishing taking the photo I was after. It’s a funny business, but the act of taking a photo can be quite exhilarating.

Olivia

David · Jan 29, 2020 ·

Olivia was the daughter of the people who ran the sandwich shop near where I worked. From the EXIF data I see that I shot this in 2005 with a Nikon D70 with a 105mm lens, shooting at 1/500th second at f11 and ISO200.

Sad Accordion Player

David · Dec 7, 2019 ·

He too is part of the not-quite Morris Dancers troupe named Mog Magog Molly. They were prepping before starting their routine and I grabbed this shot. (Cambridge Mill Road Winter Fair 2019).

I was fortunate that he had his back to a blank wall.

Impassioned on behalf of Extinction Rebellion

David · Dec 7, 2019 ·

A part of Extinction Rebellion, he was shouting out for the Government to take action. (Cambridge Mill Road Winter Fair 2019).

She said ‘I’ve got a camera like that.’

Woman at Cambridge Mill Road Winter Fair 2019

She said ‘I’ve got a camera like that.’ as she passed, and I grabbed a shot of her. (Cambridge Mill Road Winter Fair 2019).

I met her again by chance at the entrance to the Grand Arcade in Cambridge. She was part of the Extinction Rebellion die-in protest around the doors into the arcade.

I should have taken more photos to show the contrast between the shoppers and the protesters. This one was more chance than design. Still, I like the expression on the face of the Asian woman. And she is well dressed, as many Asian, specifically Japanese, women are.
